Alfred Nzo District Municipality hosted a career exhibition day for 100 grade 11 and 12 leaners from Alfred Nzo East and West on Thursday to share information that is aimed at help learners with choosing careers that are in line with available economic opportunities. Statics show that 82% of the population in Alfred Nzo is youth and only 18% are graduates, this proves the need for learners to be given information that will influence them in making better decisions for the future.
Different institutions like Walter Sisulu University, University of South Africa, Must Graduate Academy and Mbizana career guidance shared career and institution-related information and allowed a session of Qs & As, the idea was to educate the youth about what they can achieve with the skills they possess and what opportunities they can and explore and how.
One of the biggest concern learners had was the importance of Life Orientation as it does not count when calculating APS scores this allowed teachers to educate pupils further on how life decisions are closely tied to understanding life orientation.
Learners still have a stigma against TVET Colleges as they showed no interest regarding information that is related to TVET Colleges instead they showed more interest in how the university of South Africa works which meant they would rather opt for distance learning than enrolling at a skills-based institution.
