Youth from Mzintlava A/A under the Port St John’s Municipality in Mcwabantsasa location ward 14, under the supremacy of Chief Zamukulungisa have joined forces and decided to come up with an idea to form up a stokvel club.
The stokvel does not follow the tradition of other clubs whose focus is to buy food and alcohol. Sizonqoba stokvel which is an appropriate name of the group is living up to its objective, which is to help build houses within the community of Mcwabantsasa location and surrounding areas. The stokvel has 150 members from Mcwabantsasa location who have decided not to wait on the promises of government to build them RDP houses and have therefore help residents with shelter which is the most basic essential of life. Local community leaders and residents have welcomed this initiative.
Zandile Mbana who is the founder of this stokvel says the aim of the group is to help residents own a home because not everyone gets approved by the banks, as some people depend on social grants. She insisted that when there is enough money to build for one of the members, the money is paid directly to the hardware so that funds do not get misused.
We would like to get funding so that we may build a hardware of our own and get our own machinery so that we may produce products that are of good quality, and in return help create jobs within our community, – said Zandile.
So far, the group has over 100 beneficiaries. Nolubabalo Mtshengu who is a beneficiary of Sizonqoba stokvel says joining the group has helped her renovate her six roomed muddy house by plastering the house, fixed a leaking and floor with the funds from the stokvel. She has further urged people to join the stokvel so that they may have the feeling of owning a house.
