A shack in Komani claimed the lives of two elderly citizens of the Eastern Cape, aged 90 and 82.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni, the tow passed away on Friday night.

“On Saturday, police were summoned to a scene of a shack that was engulfed in flames at Nomzamo area in Mlungisi, Komani,” said Mdleleni.

Mdleleni said the two bodies of the victims were discovered after the fire was extinguished.

“Their identities are withheld until the formal identification process is concluded,” said Mdleleni.

The cause of fire is yet unknown.

“Police opened an inquest docket for further investigation,” Mdleleni said.
