In preparation for the Eastern Cape Provincial Conference that is set to elect new leadership of youth wing of the African National Congress on the 13th and 14th of July at the East London ICC after almost a decade without the elected structure. Pondoland Times spoke with secretary of ANCYL WMMLM Sub-region Lihle Chalo who described the atmosphere and expected outcome of the conference.
Lihle Chalo says as the ANCYL they had no chance of being young in the ANC the issue of appointing old people in the task team had been one of the underlying factors because they have no interests of young people. The secretary of the Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipality says they are now more than ready to champion the needs of the youth and they have a number of comrades who they feel are ready to represent them at a provincial and national level.
Names of comrades that the WMMLM ANCYL Sub-region believes that are ready and capable to be representatives
- Yanga Govana from ward five
- Sibonelo Tshonga from ward twenty (current deputy secretary of YCL)
- Asiphe Hlombe ward six
The ANCYL sub-region is confident that Yanga Bonga the regional secretary of ANCYL at Alfred Nzo region will be the best candidate for provincial deputy chair person. They believe he will not disappoint in and is more than capable to represent the needs of young people in the province.
Lihle Chalo expressed that as ANCYL the kind of leadership they vouch for is a leadership that is able to speak to the needs of the youth like addressing social issues like drug abuse and gender based violence amounts other things.
