Often drivers are being reckless on the road. They do not follow traffic rules and some drive while they are under the influence of alcohol. September is not over yet but there are more than twenty people who have died because of car accidents.

Drivers are being careless in such a way that one would overtake even when it is not safe to do so last week Friday 16 September, two cars collided on N2 in East London both drivers died. Another cause of accidents is when drivers ignore traffic lights, there is a viral video of a truck colliding with a SUV on R72 towards East London. The truck driver had a right of way while the SUV driver was not paying attention when approaching an intersection. The collision could have been avoided if the driver of SUV followed road instructions.

According to the South African law reckless and negligence driving is a crime, one could be charged with a fine, arrested of even have license suspended. Minister of Transport of South Africa Fikile Mbalula has also confirmed that reckless driving is often the cause of accidents on South African roads.

Reckless driving and negligence may include: failure to yield the right of way, speeding over the limit, drunk driving, distracted driving like using cellphone while driving, fatigued driving and following another car very close can lead to an accident.
