A food poisoning incident in Goxe Village, Matatiele, has triggered a swift response from the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) and health officials. Several residents became ill after consuming food at a funeral service, prompting immediate on-site support and an ongoing investigation.
What happened in Goxe Village?
On the day of the incident, multiple community members in Ward 05, Goxe Village, reported symptoms consistent with food poisoning. The cases were linked to food served during a local funeral.
Executive Mayor Cllr Nomasomi Mshuqwana led a municipal team to the scene alongside health authorities. Medical support was provided to affected residents, and further testing is underway to identify the cause.
“Ensuring the safety of our community is a priority. We will leave no stone unturned in addressing this,” said Mayor Mshuqwana.

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality has confirmed the following response actions:

- Environmental Health Practitioners are conducting food safety assessments
