    What Happened

CAF announced a 43% increase in the winner’s prize money ahead of the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 tournament.

This means the AFCON 2025 champions will receive $10 million, up from $7 million awarded in 2021.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said the boost reflects CAF’s commitment to “making African football globally competitive and self-sustaining.”

    Official Response

“We have significantly increased the prize money… as part of our ongoing commitment to African football,” said Dr Motsepe.

CAF’s improved finances are credited to better partnerships, marketing and broadcast strategies. These funds are being reinvested into national teams and football development across the continent.

    Community Impact

South African fans will be watching closely as Bafana Bafana prepare for AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
