King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality has officially opened the new Mthatha swimming pool, a long-awaited recreational facility for the local community. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Executive Mayor G.N. Nelani, who reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to providing safe and accessible public facilities.
Facility Supports Youth Development and Community Wellness
In his address, Councillor Nelani said the swimming pool will serve a broader purpose than recreation. It will support youth development programmes, water safety training, and community wellness initiatives. He encouraged families to use the facility responsibly and assured residents that the municipality has put strict measures in place to maintain and safeguard the pool.
The municipality hopes the facility will help young people learn essential water safety skills, stay active, and participate in structured programmes. The pool also offers a safe alternative for children who previously swam in unsafe rivers and dams.
Access Fees Temporarily Set for All Users
KSD Municipality announced temporary access fees to ensure proper management and sustainability. Children aged 3 to 13 will pay R17, while adults aged 14 and above will pay R40. The municipality said these fees may be reviewed as operations stabilise.
