Princess Stella Sigcau II of the AmaMpondo Kingdom is set to receive one of the continent’s most distinguished honours — the Iconic Royal Heritage & Cultural Preservation Award — in recognition of her lifelong contribution to cultural preservation, women’s empowerment, and South Africa’s diplomatic standing on the world stage.
The honour will be conferred at the Iconic Summit & Honours 2025, taking place on 6 December 2025 at Capital on the Park in Sandton, Johannesburg, where Princess Sigcau II will attend as a Presidential Guest of Honour and celebrated awardee.
Princess Sigcau II, a seasoned diplomat with more than 21 years of service, is recognised for her unwavering commitment to community upliftment, cultural revival, and the advancement of gender justice. Her work spans government, traditional leadership, global diplomacy, and grassroots advocacy — making her one of Africa’s most influential modern royal figures.
A champion against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), Princess Sigcau II founded the South Africa Royal Processes Network (SARPN), which strengthens traditional leadership responses to GBVF and builds platforms for women’s empowerment within royal and cultural structures. She continues to serve as SARPN’s Honorary President.
Her cultural leadership is equally profound. Princess Sigcau II co-founded the Mpondo Culture and Heritage Festival in 2006 and established the Mpondo Reed Dance in 2008 — two major cultural institutions that have revitalised Mpondo traditions, strengthened cultural tourism, and preserved indigenous knowledge for future generations.
WATB President and Executive Ambassador Maleboheng Matli praised her remarkable legacy, saying:
“Princess Sigcau’s continued commitment to the promotion of culture and heritage — including the Mpondo Festival — stands as an exceptional contribution to heritage preservation, cultural identity and traditional leadership excellence.”
Matli added that even during her tenure abroad as South Africa’s Consul-General in Hong Kong, Princess Sigcau II “remained deeply rooted in issues pertaining to heritage, championing African cultural pride, promoting cultural diplomacy, and uplifting communities.”
The award she will receive is reserved for members of African Royal Houses who advance lineage protection, cultural diplomacy, heritage development, women’s empowerment and community transformation — areas where Princess Sigcau II has excelled with distinction.
The Iconic Summit & Honours 2025, themed “The Africa We Want: Everyone’s Responsibility,” aligns with major development frameworks, including the African Union Agenda 2063, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030. It highlights leaders who embody nation-building, social cohesion, and cultural and economic empowerment.
As Princess Stella Sigcau II prepares to accept this continental honour, her recognition stands not only as a tribute to her personal achievements, but as a celebration of the Mpondo nation, South African women, and the ongoing work to preserve Africa’s cultural identity while advancing a more just and united society.
