The O.R. Tambo District Municipality Tourism unit hosted a colourful Pop-Up Market in Port St Johns on 04 December 2025. The event brought together local creators, entrepreneurs and performers from across the Wild Coast.
The district shared the stage with its sister municipalities — Mhlontlo, Nyandeni, Ingquza Hill (IHLM) and King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD). Each came ready to showcase the rich talent, food, crafts and cultural products that define this part of the Eastern Cape.
The market drew residents, visitors and tourists who were eager to experience the diversity of the region. Stalls offered handmade crafts, freshly prepared local dishes, beadwork, fashion pieces and traditional art. In addition, live performances outlined the district’s musical and cultural heritage.
Organisers said the goal is to support small businesses and strengthen local tourism. Many entrepreneurs rely on seasonal tourism for income, and events like this create new opportunities for visibility and sales.
In addition, the market encouraged collaboration among municipalities. Officials shared ideas on marketing the Wild Coast, promoting cultural tourism and expanding platforms for emerging creators.
Traders expressed gratitude for the exposure. Several said the event helped them reach new customers and build confidence in their work. Others noted that the support from the district shows a growing commitment to developing local tourism.
The Pop-Up Market ended on a high note, with strong foot traffic and positive feedback from both traders and visitors. It also reinforced how culture, creativity and small business growth remain central to the region’s tourism future.
The district said more collaborative initiatives are planned as part of efforts to strengthen the Wild Coast brand.
