Nyandeni Local Municipality’s management has convened a two-day planning session at ShirleyJ’s Guest House in Ngqeleni as part of its annual institutional planning cycle. The retreat brought together senior officials, including Council Speaker F. Gaxeni, to assess performance, refine development priorities, and strengthen teamwork.

Gaxeni welcomed the delegates and reminded them that management is the “heartbeat” of the institution. He encouraged stronger teamwork to achieve development targets for Ngqeleni and Libode.
Gaxeni stressed the need for compassionate yet firm leadership. “Managers must lead with empathy and authority,” he said. He also urged officials to communicate municipal achievements to residents more regularly.
The Municipal Manager outlined the retreat’s core purpose, saying the session will:
- assess the institution’s performance,
- review the adopted IDP and scorecards, and
- conclude Nyandeni’s updated situational analysis.
Official Response
The Municipal Manager committed to developing stronger systems that will monitor performance and ensure effective implementation of development goals. He said management must push for higher performance levels than before and strengthen internal coordination.
“Our task is to perform better than we are doing now,” he stated, adding that the municipality is improving systems to track progress and ensure that residents experience real change.
