President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed new members to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in terms of Section 6 of the Electoral Commission Act, following recommendations from the National Assembly. The appointed commissioners will serve a seven-year term, ensuring stability and oversight within South Africa’s democratic framework.
What Happened
The President confirmed three key appointments to the IEC on 4 November 2025.
Mrs Joyce Pitso and Mr Mosotho Moepya will serve as full-time commissioners, while Judge Dhaya Pillay joins as a part-time commissioner.
Additionally, in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Electoral Commission Act, Mr Moepya has been designated as the chairperson of the Commission. His leadership is expected to guide the IEC in upholding transparent and credible elections across the nation.
