Who Can Claim Compensation from RAF?
Following the tragic bus crash near Makhado in Limpopo, the Road Accident Fund (RAF) says families of victims may lodge claims — but compensation is not automatic.
Each case must meet the legal requirement of “wrongful driving” under the Road Accident Fund Act. This means the RAF will only pay once investigations confirm someone else caused the crash unlawfully.
RAF clarified it is not automatically liable for any crash, even one as devastating as this.
Claim Process and What to Know
The RAF has urged patience while police investigations are underway. Families can only claim once fault is officially established.
Here’s what the RAF says about the process:
- Every claim will be reviewed on its own merit.
- Wrongful driving must be proven before payout.
- Claims by foreign nationals must also comply with immigration laws.
“We pledge to support families in lodging their claims,” the RAF said. “But liability depends on the outcome of formal investigations.”
