Nkosikhona Sangelwa from Nyanisweni, Ward 12, is a rising photographer making a name for himself in Bizana under the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality. He began his career working with Ivo McKhathaza, later joined Gayas Entertainment, and now runs his own small photoshoot business near KFC in the town centre.

Starting out on his own has not been easy. He has had to buy equipment from scratch, cover daily transport costs while still based at home, and endure stiff competition for customers. At times, his challenges have included being asked to move by the municipality, which has claimed his stand is incorrectly placed near the traffic lights.

Still, Sangelwa believes patience is what keeps him going. “If I was not a patient person, I would have given up or stayed at home,” he said.

His perseverance allows him to cover his rent each month while continuing to attract loyal clients. Looking ahead, he hopes the government and municipality can assist local photographers with stable stands and access to equipment such as rental cameras. He also wishes that photogra phers in Bizana could work together rather than compete in isolation.
