On 16 September 2025 100 residents in Kariega were assisted with vital services through an initiative supported by the Democratic Alliance (DA). Mayoral Candidate Retief Odendaal helped hand over two title deeds, signed ATTP documents, finalised last wills and testaments, and pledged R2 000 to the Cancer Centre in Caledon Street.

What Happened

The DA hosted a service delivery drive in Kariega, offering critical assistance to community members. The event included the handover of title deeds, giving beneficiaries long-awaited security of property ownership. Residents were also assisted with Assistance to the Poor Programme (ATTP) applications, designed to provide relief on municipal service charges.

Official Response

DA Mayoral Candidate Retief Odendaal said the initiative demonstrated his party’s commitment to people-focused service delivery.

“This is what real service and care look like. We are here to make sure people feel the impact of government in their daily lives,” Odendaal said.

He also pledged financial support to the Cancer Centre in Caledon Street, underscoring the importance of supporting community health initiatives.

Community Impact

Residents described the day as a life-changing experience, with title deed handovers providing dignity and ATTP applications offering financial relief. The DA’s donation to the Cancer Centre was also praised as an act of solidarity with families affected by cancer.
