The African National Congress (ANC) Alfred Nzo Regional Chairperson, Tsileng Sobuthongo, delivered a powerful address at the NEHAWU OR Tambo Women’s Day Celebration held at MPCC in Mount Ayliff.
In her speech, Sobuthongo emphasized that liberation, gender equality, and service delivery cannot be separated. She reminded attendees that South Africa’s liberation struggle is deeply tied to the fight against patriarchy and gender oppression.
“True emancipation requires transforming the conditions under which care work, teaching, and health work are performed,” she said. “This includes better pay, equal pay for equal work, safer workplaces, manageable workloads, maternity protection, and proper recognition of unpaid care work.”
Her remarks resonated with the audience, stating the urgent need for practical solutions to the everyday challenges faced by women workers.
