
- Arrest of Suspects in Vehicle Hijacking Case: The Tactical Response Team and Reece unit in OR Tambo District arrested two male suspects after recovering a hijacked company vehicle stolen in Qumbu CBD on 18 July 2025.
- Suspect Apprehended with Stolen Phone and Led Police to Vehicle: A 37-year-old suspect was detained in Libode on 12 August 2025, found with a phone taken during the hijacking, and he guided officers to the vehicle’s sale location in Ngcobo.
- Recovered Vehicle Found with Removed Stickers and Fake Plates: The hijacked Toyota bakkie was found in Cobosi, Ngcobo, altered with no company stickers and fitted with false Gauteng registration plates.
The Tactical Response Team, together with their Reece unit in the OR Tambo District, arrested two male suspects following the recovery of a hijacked company vehicle. The Toyota bakkie was stolen in Qumbu CBD on 18 July 2025.
Acting on information, police arrested a 37-year-old suspect in Libode on Tuesday, 12 August 2025. He was found in possession of a cellphone taken during the hijacking. The suspect led officers to Ngcobo, where the bakkie had allegedly been sold.
The vehicle was located in Cobosi locality, Ngcobo, with all company stickers removed and fitted with false Gauteng registration plates. A 30-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
Both suspects are set to appear in separate Magistrates’ Courts, the 37-year-old facing charges of carjacking and possession of stolen property, and the 30-year-old charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, praised the Tactical Team for their swift response and commitment in ensuring all involved in the crime were brought to justice.
