The O.R. Tambo District Municipality has confirmed a strong performance in infrastructure delivery, with 99.5% of its R3.54 billion 2024/25 budget already spent directly on projects that benefit communities. This was revealed at the District-Wide Infrastructure Forum held this week, led by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
The report showed that most municipalities in the district achieved their full targets, placing O.R. Tambo among the best-performing districts in both the Eastern Cape and the country. The district has also begun the 2025/26 financial year on a high note, with half of its municipalities already in the top performance category.
Business plans for the 2026/27 financial year have been finalised, ensuring that there will be no delays or loss of momentum in rolling out future projects. The district leadership emphasised their ongoing commitment to turning budgets into tangible developments, including water supply systems, roads, and public facilities that improve daily life in villages and towns.
The Executive Mayor Mesuli Ngqondwana assured residents that their trust is being honoured, promising that the work will not stop. The district remains focused on delivering on its mandate, with the involvement of Nyandeni Local Municipality, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality, Ingquza Hill Local Municipality, Mhlontlo Local Municipality, and Port St. Johns Local Municipality, supported by SALGA, CoGTA Eastern Cape, and the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier.
