While everyone was worried about the Covid-19 pandemic and losing their jobs Khanyisa Sigebetshu was one of the people who also lost her job, but that did not shake her as she found a new way to generate an income.
LUSIKISIKI-BORN self-taught baker Khanyisa Sigebetshu(29), studied for a Diploma in Building at Mangosuthu University of Technology. Started working in one of the hospitality industries where she found a passion to bake, a self-taught baker who has since engaged in a short course in injabulo FoodWorks. “ I lost my job at a cruise ship due to Covid-19 and I had no luck getting a job of my qualification, so I had to turn my hobby into a hustle, I have since focused on making my customers happy,” she explains.
Her vision was to be recognized as a baker living a mark with her sweet treats and have her own bakery whilst making others happy during the happy moments. When she started baking, she had no idea where to look when it came to the material for baking, and it took her long enough to finally gather what she had, and each time she had an order she had to buy something long-term. “While I was working on a cruise ship, I would observe how cakes were made and I used the knowledge and watched videos on YouTube to equip myself,” Khanyisa said in an interview with Daily Dispatch.
Lack of transport and still using her mother’s kitchen remains a challenge in her baking business. The beliefs and perspective she has challenged with her work are that you can’t make a business without money she has and she is still challenging that belief as she is growing more with orders.
“I pretty much believe in working hard and playing harder as this gets the mind to ease up and also be ready to tackle all business challenges and issues that arise,” she concludes.
