  • ActionSA Files Complaint Against Minister Gayton McKenzie: ActionSA has formally reported Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie to the SAHRC for allegedly making racist and degrading comments towards black South Africans, asserting these remarks have no place in democracy.
  • Commitment to Legal Action and Due Process: While cautious about the SAHRC’s effectiveness, ActionSA remains committed to following legal procedures and is prepared to escalate the matter to the Equality Court if necessary.
  • Stand Against Racism in All Forms: ActionSA condemned offensive remarks against the Coloured community and emphasizes that racism in any form must be confronted and held accountable.

ActionSA has lodged a formal complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) against Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, accusing him of using hateful Apartheid-era slurs and other degrading references towards black South Africans.

The party said the remarks were “racist and demeaning” and had no place in a democratic South Africa. While ActionSA expressed reservations about the SAHRC’s effectiveness, it affirmed its commitment to following due process and signalled readiness to take the matter to the Equality Court under Section 20 of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act if needed.

Earlier this week, ActionSA condemned offensive remarks aimed at the Coloured community. It now says it is applying the same principle in holding McKenzie accountable, reinforcing its stance that racism in any form must be confronted.

The party also announced a separate SAHRC complaint against Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson for allegedly making racially charged comments about ActionSA supporters, labelling them “amaphara” and “hobos.”

“Non-racialism is a founding value of ActionSA,” the party stated. “We must fight to protect the dignity of every South African and ensure that those in public office uphold the constitutional values for which so many sacrificed their lives.”
