The Makhwantini Community held a peaceful March on Wednesday to submit a petition of demands to the magistrate court and also attend the court hearing of the three accused.
The accused, Msizi Khomo, Babongile Qunya, and Nkosinathi Qunya are going to appear at the Mbizana Magistrate court on the 3rd of March for a formal bail hearing.
The court case was postponed due to an ongoing investigation.
Among the people who were present in the court hearing, were family members of the accused mother and son.
Nokwenziwe Qunya spoke with Pondoland Times as a family representative, she said, she is not against the arrest of the accused however she feels as though the police officials who are handling the case are setting up the family against the community. because of the release of the audio that was circulating. She said, as the family they expected the information to be confidential and she added that as the family they are not denying the case against them however they should not be turned against the community by police officials. Said that are having sleepless nights because the community is threatening to burn them or chase them out of Makhwantini.
