Independent producer and director Nceba Mqolomba captivated audiences on Day 1 of the Eastern Cape Film Expo with his inspiring journey through South Africa’s vibrant film industry. Held at the Joza Township Youth Centre, the expo featured Mqolomba’s reflections on building a meaningful career in a sector known for its intensity and competition.
A native of Kariega, Mqolomba’s résumé spans acclaimed music videos, TV favourites like Khumbul’ekhaya and All You Need is Love, and international projects such as The Last King of Scotland and The Amazing Race. His work has shaped narratives on both local and global stages.
Now, he’s paying it forward through projects like EC Skills 10, a National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF)- and ECDC-backed initiative that trained 250 emerging filmmakers and employed over 320 people. One of its standout short films, Zania, was screened at the expo to high praise.
Mqolomba’s passion also took him to the Zanzibar International Film Festival, where he hosted a South African film showcase in 2022 and returned in 2025 for a panel on Pan-African film models.
From Ringo Madlingozi and Zonke music videos to SAFTA-winning productions, his journey remains a powerful blueprint for aspiring filmmakers across the continent.
