OPINION: Increase in Interest Rates Will Impact the Daily Lives of Ordinary South Africans

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that the Child Support Grant for May 2025 remains at R530 per child. This amount reflects the latest adjustment made earlier this year to support low-income caregivers facing rising living costs.

According to an official payment schedule poster released by SASSA, children’s grants will be paid out from Thursday, 8 May 2025. This payment date applies nationwide and includes grants linked to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, Postbank Gold Cards, and approved retail outlets.

SASSA has reminded beneficiaries that there is no need to rush to withdraw money on the first day. “Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed,” reads the advisory note on the May payment poster.

Other grant dates for May are:

  • Older Person’s Grants: Tuesday, 6 May 2025
  • Disability Grants: Wednesday, 7 May 2025
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 8 May 2025

The Child Support Grant is designed to assist primary caregivers of children under the age of 18. Payments can be accessed via SASSA Gold Cards at ATMs, retail outlets such as Shoprite, Checkers, and Pick n Pay, or through mobile paypoints in rural communities.
