Kaizer Chiefs were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Chippa United in a DStv Premiership clash held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 20 April 2025. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities, Amakhosi could not find a breakthrough against a well-organised Chippa defence.
The match marked the return of head coach Cavin Johnson to the technical area after recovering from a brief illness. Chiefs made only one change to the starting lineup, bringing in midfielder Samkelo Zwane for Sibongiseni Mthethwa, but the tactical shift failed to yield the desired result in front of goal.
The opening stages of the game saw Chiefs apply pressure through overlapping wing play, particularly from Reeve Frosler and Sfiso Hlanti, while Christian Saile and Ashley du Preez led the attacking efforts. However, Chippa goalkeeper Lloyd Kazapua stood firm, making crucial saves to deny Amakhosi.
In the second half, Chiefs introduced Ranga Chivaviro and Mduduzi Mdantsane in a bid to inject attacking energy, but Chippa’s compact backline and disciplined defensive shape frustrated their efforts. Amakhosi had a late chance through a set piece, but it was narrowly missed, sealing a 0–0 stalemate.
The result leaves Kaizer Chiefs with work to do in their remaining fixtures as they push for a strong league finish. For Chippa United, the point gained could prove vital in their fight to remain in the top tier.
Kaizer Chiefs return to action next weekend in another crucial fixture, where they’ll aim to bounce back and convert dominance into goals.
