Buffalo City Metro, Eastern Cape — The Eastern Cape is making strides towards a sustainable future with the launch of Off-Grid Charging Stations for new energy vehicles. The initiative, officially inaugurated today by MEC Nonkqubela Pieters at Wagon Wheels Pies on the N6, is part of a substantial R11 billion investment aimed at promoting green infrastructure.
The project will see the construction of 29 Off-Grid Charging Stations designed for New Energy Vehicles and Trucks, positioning the province as a leader in eco-friendly development. This initiative is expected to generate 1,170 jobs across various construction and maintenance sites, emphasizing the commitment to inclusive growth, job creation, and a sustainable economy.
At the launch event, MEC Pieters also participated in a sod-turning ceremony and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between AIDC-EC (an entity of DEDEAT through ECDC) and Zero Carbon Charge. The collaboration underscores the government’s dedication to lowering the cost of living, poverty reduction, and boosting economic growth through sustainable practices.
