The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation into the brutal killings of six community patrollers in the Godini area, in Qumbu. Following a visit to the crime scene at Lugongozo Senior Secondary School, General Masemola was briefed by SAPS top management on the developments in the case.

A specialized team of detectives from the Mthatha district is actively pursuing suspects believed to be linked to the murders and the attempted murder of four additional patrollers who were injured during the attack. General Masemola remarked, “The investigation is ongoing, and arrests are imminent. The leads suggest a connection to ongoing stock theft-related issues between the affected village and neighboring areas.”

General Masemola also engaged with community patrollers gathered near the crime scene, some of whom survived the mass shooting. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in the fight against crime while firmly condemning any acts of vigilantism.

As the investigation unfolds, both national and provincial teams remain committed to restoring law and order in the affected communities, highlighting the SAPS’s dedication to ensuring public safety.
