The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is mourning the loss of Mxolisi Koyo, the former provincial chairperson of the organization. Koyo’s dedicated service as a member of the Provincial Electoral Committee is being fondly remembered by SALGA. He previously served as the mayor of the Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
SALGA has described Koyo as a community servant who made moral regeneration the cornerstone of his transformative agenda for local government. He was known for promoting moral leadership and ensuring impeccable administration.
Provincial spokesperson for SALGA, Mesuli Ngqondwana, expressed profound sorrow over Koyo’s passing. “His death is a great loss,” Ngqondwana stated. “As SALGA, he leaves us in the midst of the professionalisation of the local government sector, which aims to ensure that we portray the sector as effective and free from widespread criticism of inefficiency and ineffectiveness. May his soul rest in peace, we pray.”
Koyo’s legacy of service and commitment to his community will be remembered and cherished by those who worked with him and benefited from his leadership.
