The King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality launched the National Youth Service Program in Northcrest, Ward 8, on 24 October 2025. Executive Mayor Councilor. G. N. Nelani announced the rollout through a partnership with Cricket South Africa and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) . The initiative aims to build skills while opening real pathways into work.
What Happened?
The launch brought together government leaders, youth organisations and stakeholders from the sports and development sectors. Young participants will receive hands-on training in health, education, sports, arts, culture, community services and office support.
Mayor Nelani said the municipality is committed to supporting young people with every opportunity available.
“We want youth to step into the future with confidence and the skills they need,” Nelani said.
Official Response
Cricket South Africa has joined the program to promote development beyond the field. Meanwhile, NYDA pledged continuous support, calling the partnership a strategic investment in the region’s future workforce.
NYDA representatives highlighted that the initiative will connect youth to formal employment and entrepreneurship.
Community Impact
The launch has sparked hope among Northcrest youth, many of whom struggle to find work after school. Local leaders believe the program will boost socio-economic development as more young residents gain workplace experience and qualifications.
Community members expressed excitement, noting that the program encourages growth while reducing crime and idleness.
