In commemoration of Youth Month, the South African Police Service is recognising Constables Leilani Blom and Nicolene Visser for their achievements in rugby.
Constable Leilani Blom, 28, began her policing career seven years ago at the remote Aggeneys Police Station. She now serves in the Springbok Public Order Policing unit. In 2023, she joined the Namakwa Diamonds women’s rugby team and quickly earned a place in the Senior Griquas squad. This year marks her second selection for the Suzuki Griquas women’s team. Blom is known for her dedication, saying she approaches both her policing and sport duties with passion and honour.
Constable Nicolene Visser, 24, joined the SAPS in 2024 and is based at Roodepan Police Station in Kimberley. She plays for Sol Plaatje University’s women’s rugby team and was first selected to represent the Griquas in 2022. Known for her boundless energy and positivity, Visser believes that teamwork and commitment, rather than size or strength, are key to making a difference, values she applies both on duty and on the field.
Both officers have also been selected to represent the Northern Cape SAPS women’s rugby team at the upcoming SAPS National Rugby Championship in Gauteng this July.
Their dual achievements highlight the potential of young officers who serve their communities with pride while excelling in other fields. SAPS has commended both women for embodying the spirit of dedication and teamwork during Youth Month celebrations.
