Walter Sisulu University (WSU) graduate Ntombozuko Balintulo is proving that radio still has a strong heartbeat, even in an age where podcasts dominate the digital airwaves.

Now a presenter at TruFM, Balintulo continues to grow her audience with authentic storytelling, a powerful voice, and a strong connection to her listeners. Her show has seen a notable spike in listenership, reaffirming the lasting appeal of live radio.

“Radio will survive,” she said. “What makes it relevant is the conversations, the music, and how people can respond in real time. It’s interactive and accessible—even globally, thanks to digital platforms.”

Balintulo’s love for radio began after high school when she enrolled at WSU to study Versatile Broadcasting. Within a month, she was already volunteering at a local station and quickly rose to host her own show.

Her breakthrough came in 2023, when she earned a regular presenting slot at TruFM after winning the station’s Tru Talent competition in 2022. Since then, she’s used her platform to uplift voices, share life experiences, and build a loyal community of listeners.

While acknowledging the rise of podcasts, Balintulo says the two formats aren’t in competition. “Podcasts and radio serve different audiences. There’s space for both.”
