Onthathile and Nelisiwe Faku, WSU 101 Facilitators, joined forces with Buffalo City Campus Coordinator Ms Ntengo to distribute study packs to first-year students on 04 November. The initiative aims to uplift and prepare learners for the upcoming examination season while reinforcing the university’s commitment to student success.

What Happened

The facilitators, together with Ms Ntengo, handed out study packages that included essential materials to help students stay organised and focused during their exams. Many first-year learners welcomed the support, saying it eased exam stress and boosted their morale.

“This pack shows that the university believes in us,” said one first-year student. “It reminds us that we’re not alone in this journey.”

The initiative comes at a critical time when students across campuses are preparing for final assessments, often under intense pressure. By providing tools and encouragement, the facilitators hope to create a culture of care and determination among new students.

Official Response

Ms. Ntengo, the Buffalo City Campus Coordinator, commended the effort and mentioned the importance of such gestures.

“We want our students to feel valued and supported,” she said. “These small acts can make a huge difference in how they approach their exams.”

The university continues to promote student-centred programmes that blend academic preparation with emotional and social support. Initiatives like these align with WSU’s broader mission to build confident, capable graduates ready to make an impact in their communities.

Community Impact

The study pack drive has resonated strongly with students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds who often lack access to study materials. The gesture not only provides practical support but also instils hope and motivation.

For many, it’s a reminder that the university recognizes their challenges and is actively working to help them succeed. This shared sense of care fosters unity and strengthens the campus community ahead of a demanding exam period.
