Walter Sisulu University (WSU) delegates made a strong impression at the ELETSA National Academic Advising Seminar 2025, held on November 3, 2025, at the University of Johannesburg’s Bunting Road Campus. The event, themed “Coordinated Student Success Pathways: Advancing Academic Advising Through Collaboration, Professionalization, Innovation and Evidence,” brought together leaders from various higher education institutions to exchange ideas on improving academic advising and student outcomes.
Their Story
The Acting Manager of Student Success, Mr. Sabelo Peter, represented WSU as a panelist in a session titled “The Heart of Student Success: Building an Ecosystem to Drive Change.” The panel, moderated by Mrs. Ninette Aucamp, featured thought leaders from NWU, UJ, WSU, and Rhodes University, who shared their insights on strengthening academic support systems for students.
WSU’s participation went beyond discussion one of its Academic Advising Buddies presented a research paper, while three academic advisors showcased their work, contributing to national dialogues on academic development and mentorship.
The Event/Occasion
The seminar hosted over 100 registered delegates and included 17 paper presentations from 12 national public higher education institutions. It served as an important space for professional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and building partnerships among universities committed to improving student support structures.
WSU’s contributions demonstrated the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering a student-centered academic environment and strengthening institutional advising frameworks.
