The O.R. Tambo District Municipality hosted a Multiparty Women’s Caucus, Wellness, and Heritage Dialogue at Mayfair, Mthatha. The event, held during Heritage Month, brought together women leaders to reflect on wellness, celebrate cultural heritage, and strengthen bonds of unity in leadership and community service.
WHAT HAPPENED
The dialogue created a platform for women to openly discuss issues affecting their wellness physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social while also honoring South Africa’s diverse heritage. Participants emphasized the importance of self-care and personal growth as part of responsible leadership. The program also encouraged collective learning and mutual support among women in leadership roles.
OFFICIAL RESPONSE
O.R. Tambo District Speaker, Councillor. Nonkoliso Ngqongwa, opened the event with a powerful reminder:
“It is an honor to gather during this Heritage Month to celebrate our rich culture, which unites us and strengthens our bonds. As women leaders, we confront challenges in our homes, communities, and broader society, while carrying the voices of those we serve and ensuring that we also care for ourselves.”
She further urged leaders to see leadership as service:
“Leadership is not just a position but a function. Women in leadership must prioritize unity, respect, and collective growth.”

The dialogue was welcomed by participants as a safe and empowering space. Community voices echoed the call for wellness-centered leadership, with many expressing that healthier, empowered women leaders will positively influence families, communities, and governance.
