Women For Change has denied a series of defamatory allegations circulating online, calling them false, harmful and intentionally misleading. The organisation says the accusations targeting both the NPO and its founder have escalated into harassment despite ongoing legal action.
What Happened
Women For Change, known for leading the nationwide G20 Women’s Shutdown and global GBVF awareness campaigns, says false claims are resurfacing.
These allegations include:
- Claims that the NPO is “not registered”
- Accusations of “financial benefit”
- Misleading suggestions that the founder “uses millions for personal gain”
The organisation says the claims are fabricated and aimed at discrediting its work and public standing.
Women For Change states that it is fully registered, compliant, and transparent. All governance documents, certificates, and Annual Financial Statements are publicly available on its website.
“We operate on public donations with a very small team. Everything we do is done with limited resources because we believe in the mission, not profit,” the founder said.
Ongoing Legal Actions
According to the founder, the defamatory attacks intensified after the launch of a high-profile petition against American musician Chris Brown last year 2024.
She says she has endured:
- Harassment
- Misogynistic and xenophobic attacks
- Threats
- Hate speech
- Coordinated smear campaigns
In response, she has opened:
- A criminal case
- A protection order
- A civil High Court matter
These cases remain active.
“The time and emotional energy stolen by these attacks are taken from the work we do for survivors,” she said. “But the safety of women and children will always come first.”
Impact on GBVF Advocacy
Women For Change has led some of the country’s largest anti-GBVF campaigns, mobilising millions and supporting thousands of survivors and families.
The organisation played a key role in the recent National Disaster declaration on GBVF.
The founder expressed disappointment that some of the misinformation is being amplified by people who publicly identify as feminists and activists.
“To knowingly spread defamatory content about an organisation that fights for women is not activism. It harms survivors,” she said.
Official Response
Women For Change says it will continue to pursue legal action and defend its integrity.
“I will not allow hate speech, intimidation or misinformation to undermine the work we do,” the founder said. “We will continue standing with survivors and fighting for justice.”
She thanked supporters who have backed the movement through years of advocacy.
“This achievement, this declaration, this moment is yours. We did it.”
