A 51-year-old East London woman has died after her partner allegedly assaulted her at his Mthatha workplace during a violent argument. The woman passed away on Friday, 6 June 2025, at a private hospital in Mthatha, days after the reported attack.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday, 31 May 2025, at an automotive dealership where the woman’s 57-year-old boyfriend is employed. The couple allegedly argued, leading to a physical assault. The man reportedly took the injured woman to hospital the next day, claiming she had been attacked by unknown individuals near the business.

Investigators have since uncovered inconsistencies in the suspect’s account. On the day of the woman’s death, he visited her in hospital with refreshments. Shortly afterward, her condition worsened, and she died around 13:55.

Police arrested the suspect later that evening, around 19:00, based on preliminary findings and electronic evidence. A post-mortem will confirm the precise cause of death.

Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli, praised Madeira police for their prompt response and called for a thorough investigation. “We can no longer tolerate this brutal violence against women,” said Ntuli, stressing the importance of justice in such cases.
