Police operations to remove unlicensed firearms from Eastern Cape communities led to two arrests in Bonde Location, Willowvale, on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
In the first incident, Public Order Policing (POP) members from Mthatha received information about an alleged firearm kept at a local residence. When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old man in possession of a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, a magazine and live ammunition. The man could not produce valid documentation and was immediately arrested.
On the same day, in a separate case within the same area, police acted on further intelligence and searched another house. A 27-year-old man was found with a 303 rifle, also with its serial number removed, along with live rounds of ammunition. He too failed to provide a firearm licence and was taken into custody.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court soon on charges related to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police confirmed that the arrests form part of ongoing operations aimed at reducing illegal firearms in local communities and ensuring public safety.
