The Wild Coast Sun held a sports day for the workers on Tuesday; the aim of the day was to encourage teamwork and exercise. They were all wearing T-shirts written, “Live Longer with Exercise”. The day also aimed at showing that every department is important, as the Wild Coast Sun believes to be the body, and each and every part of the body plays an important role in making every day’s work possible.

Khanya Ndumndum (Chairman of sport at Wild Coast Sun) said, they decided on sports day to ease the pressure on all employees from different departments and to create a team spirit among employees and management.

  • The Heads were represented by: Front office, Executive, Surveillance, Finance and Human Resources.
  • Neck: Gaming
  • Hands: Bidvest cleaning
  • Stomach: Food and Beverage and Golf club
  • Heart: IT, Maintenance, Water park and security
  • Legs: Concessionaires

The day started with a 5 KM race, followed by small races, which were the balloon race, sack race, egg and spoon race and needle race.

Khaya from team heart came out third Place, Xola from team Stomach took second runner-up and in the first place was Themba from team heart.

5KM Race female top3

Asanda from team heart came out third Place followed by Mongikazi in second place and Noluvuyo taking first place.

All the races had individual wins then the main games like Valley ball, football and netball had collective wins.

In volleyball team heart took third place, the team head came out second and first place was scooped by the team head. Edwin from team neck scooped the man of the tournament award.

In football teams were battling head to head refusing to back down, team head came out third Place, with the neck taking second place while the heart walk away with first place. Lungisa from the team head took the man of the tournament award

Finally, the ladies in netball had a  heated game, Ayanda from the team head walked away with the lady of the tournament award, the team head took third place, team Stomach taking second place and team heart waking away with first place.

All the awards were handed over with the assistance of a former Jomo Cosmos football star Phikolomzi “Ree”Noqazo.

In his speech he encouraged employees to always maintain fitness, he emphasized that fit employees always maintain a good attitude and are always confident and proactive.

It was a joyful day for Wild Coast Sun to the point where a guest named Josh received blessings from his family to be part of the teams, he was playing volleyball with different teams and he walked away with a couple of medals.

The overall team of the tournament award was awarded to team heart.

Xola Mhlelembana who is one of the employees said he learnt a lot about team building and he could see everyone was happy with the experience.
