On Tuesday Leaners from St Patricks’ S.P.S received hampers of toiletries and sanitary towels from the African National Congress women’s league. The women’s league consulted with the school-based support team (SBT in order to allocate the children who really deserve to benefit from additional support aid.
Noncedo Mndela ANC Women’s League secretary said, as the ANC Women’s league they want to ensure that they bridge the gap where they can and ensure that children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds do not have their situation written in their faces at school.
Mr. Sodwele speaking on behalf of the SGB and the school said “We really need more of programmes like these because they make the teaching process easier, it allow leaners to look and feel equal. We do need other people to come on board and assist where they can”
The ANC Women’s League expresses that looking away does not only make the condition worse but creates a society of angry children, but combating the situation allows learners to have hope and dream big. The leaners were enthusiastic about the gifts they received as they walked out bragging to others about their hampers. One learner was overheard saying “if I were to receive the toothbrush I would brush my teeth every day”.
