Residents of Ward 17 in the Ntabankulu Local Municipality gathered in celebration as they witnessed the official handover of a long-awaited water-supply project that promises to transform daily life in the villages of Lunzwana and Mkhomazi.
The handover ceremony was led by Cllr. M. Khuzwayo, who introduced the appointed contractors for the Ntabankulu Water Supply Scheme Contract 3. The project is valued at R29,711,546.45 and will be delivered by Lebutaka Consulting Engineers in partnership with Novubo Construction.
The scope of the 8-month project includes the construction of 32.4km of reticulation pipelines, 47 communal tap connections, and connection to a 1,000KL storage zone. Additional work covers site establishment, disinfection and commissioning of pipelines, installation of marker posts and valves, compliance with environmental and health regulations, and a 12-month maintenance period post-completion.
Community members expressed relief and joy as the project marks a major milestone in addressing the area’s historic lack of access to clean, drinkable water.
