The council of Walter Sisulu University will not be renewing the contract of its Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rushiella Nolundi Songca, which is set to expire on 31 March 2026.
Recruitment and Transition Plans Underway
In a message to the university community, Council Chair Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC confirmed that the council will launch a recruitment process aimed at appointing a suitable successor before the conclusion of the 2025 academic year.
Ngcukaitobi also revealed that he is in active discussion with Prof Songca to arrange a smooth transition, exploring whether she might assume an alternate role within the institution once her term concludes.
Acknowledging Contributions, Looking Ahead
The council plans to later announce formal arrangements to honour and express appreciation for Prof Songca’s ongoing contributions to the university’s development and evolution.
