On 18 August 2025, the Speaker of the Umzimvubu Municipal Council, Councillor Ndanele Mdzinwa, hosted a key engagement with traditional leaders at the Umzimvubu Local Municipality Conference Centre. The meeting focused on strengthening collaborative governance and improving communication between the Municipality and traditional leadership.
The session centred on the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) processes, where Councillor Mdzinwa presented a detailed progress report. Traditional leaders were given the opportunity to actively participate, ask questions, and contribute insights to ensure that their communities’ concerns are addressed through public participation forums. Representatives from the Public Participation and IDP directorates were also present to support the discussions.
Councillor Mdzinwa emphasized that the Municipality values inclusive governance and recognizes traditional leaders as key partners in development. “This engagement reflects our commitment to inclusive governance and the recognition of Traditional Leaders as key partners in development. We believe that strengthening these working relations will lead to more responsive and culturally grounded service delivery,” he said.
Traditional leaders welcomed the session, noting that it provided them with clearer insight into municipal programmes and projects currently underway. They also emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue in building stronger partnerships for the benefit of local communities.
The Umzimvubu Local Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and accountable governance that respects the role of traditional leadership in advancing community development.
