KwaBhaca – Earlier today Umzimvubu Local Municipality elected a new Speaker of Council following the resignation of the former Speaker, Cllr Nkosomzi Nomnganga, on the 8th July 2024.
In compliance with the Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998, the council immediately moved to fill the vacancy created by the resignation. Following a transparent and democratic process, Cllr Sivikele Mathebe was unanimously elected by the council members to assume the role of the Speaker.
Cllr Mathebe brings a wealth of leadership experience from SASCO, the ANC Youth League, and his service on the Municipal Council since 2021. He served as a member of the Special Programmes and Communication Standing Committee and further served in the Council Whippery Committee, demonstrating a strong track record in public service, which positions
him well to lead the council during this transitional period.
