The Umzimvubu Local Municipality has officially handed over a road construction project to Onwabo Projects, recording a major step in improving rural infrastructure in Ward 23.
The road, stretching 4.26 kilometres from Magwaca to Qwidlana, is set to improve mobility and access to services. The project is expected to take six months to complete and create around six temporary jobs for local residents.
Official Response
Speaking at the handover event, Mayor Zukiswa Ndevu urged residents to cooperate during the construction phase to ensure smooth progress.
“We ask for patience and cooperation during the construction period so that the project can be completed on time,” said Mayor Ndevu.
“This is one of government’s efforts to improve living conditions in our villages. By fixing rural access roads, we bring services closer to the people.”
The mayor also mentioned that the initiative is part of Umzimvubu’s broader commitment to service delivery and infrastructure development.
Community Impact
Local residents have welcomed the announcement, saying the improved road will make it easier for school transport, health services, and small businesses to operate in the area.
Once completed, the road is expected to boost economic activity and enhance connectivity for surrounding villages, strengthening Umzimvubu’s rural development agenda.
