Umzimvubu Local Municipality has announced the appointment of Ms. Khoboso Lebenya as its new Manager for Communication and Public Relations, effective 2 June 2025.
Her appointment fills the vacancy left in October 2024 following the resignation of Mr. Khanya Kalashe.
Lebenya brings a wealth of experience, having spent 13 years in local government communications, most recently serving as Senior Officer: Communication, Media and Intergovernmental Relations in Matatiele Local Municipality. During her time at, Matatiele was honoured three years in a row as the best municipality for implementing local government communication systems, a recognition that highlights her impact and dedication.

Prior to joining Umzimvubu, she also held the position of Assistant Director for Digital Communication, Content and Knowledge Management at the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) in the Eastern Cape.

Ms. Lebenya holds a Degree in Communication Science from UNISA, a Certificate in Municipal Finance Management (CPMD), and is currently pursuing an Honours Degree in Media Studies.
The municipality said it looks forward to her contribution in advancing its motto, “Uphuhliso kumntu wonke” (Development for everyone).
