The District Commissioner of OR Tambo, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the arrest of two suspects linked to a kidnapping and murder case in Qumbu.

The incident dates back to 1 June 2025, when two young men, aged 20 and 22, were allegedly abducted from the Qumbu Central Business District in a white Inyathi taxi. The abduction was reportedly in response to claims that the victims had stolen a sling bag containing two mobile phones and cash.

A kidnapping case was officially registered at Qumbu SAPS on 3 June. On the same day, the 20-year-old victim was found at his home in Marambeni with severe injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The arrest of 32-year-old Tembalethu Ncudu followed the next day. He appeared in the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on 4 June.

The second suspect, 33-year-old taxi owner Sifiso Nene from Mahlungulu, was arrested on 15 June at around 19:00. Investigations continued, and on 10 July, the decomposed body of the 22-year-old victim was discovered by a community member in erosion channels near Mahlungulu. His hands and feet had been tied with rope.
