Three suspects wanted in connection with multiple murder cases in the Amaoti area of Inanda were fatally wounded in a fierce shootout with police on Monday afternoon in Zimbabwe, Amaoti.

The deadly confrontation followed a recent breakthrough in a gang investigation when four alleged gang members were arrested in Cato Manor last month. During that operation, one suspect narrowly escaped arrest, intensifying police efforts to locate him.

Acting swiftly on intelligence and tip-offs from local community members, police traced the suspects to a specific house in Amaoti. Upon arrival, officers came under immediate gunfire from suspects inside the residence, who began shooting at police through the windows.

“Police returned fire in self-defense,” authorities confirmed. In the ensuing gunfight, all three suspects were shot and subsequently declared deceased at the scene.

Among those killed was the individual who had evaded capture during last month’s operation—believed by police to be the gang leader. Officers recovered three firearms from the scene, further solidifying the suspects’ involvement in violent criminal activities.

Police confirmed no officers were harmed during the shootout, marking the operation a significant step forward in restoring safety and stability to the Amaoti community.

Investigations into other potential members and criminal activities associated with the gang continue.
