Born and bred in Bizana (Greenville) the 28-year-old, Akhona Bongwa joined the Wild Coast Sun on the 6th of January 2016 as an intern in the technical department. She describes that her joining the Wild Coast Sun was terrifying as she was fresh from college with no work experience whatsoever. However, the humanity and the culture of the people who were already working was warm. She says people were not afraid to share information and assist which made her journey smooth.
Fresh from College Akhona found herself in a circle of a gentleman’s club, she says being the only girl was unsettling because she met with a world entirely different from what she has learnt from the theory taught in college and felt naïve about the work industry. Miss Bongwa says the people who were already experienced were easily accessible, they made it easy for her to learn about the work industry.
“In the technical department we repair everything in the casino from the machines that count money, the cash desk, machines that dispense the cards, the tables, I feel like the people that I met as an intern gave me platform to have access to all the other departments which was beautiful”
With her ability to execute and engage with people which is vital in the hospitality industry she says by the grace of God the internship turned into a vacant post and was later employed as an official gaming technician.
Miss Bongwa described how unpredictable the gaming industry is, she said people can win big and people can lose big that is why it is important to know where to draw the line. She says the most frequently asked question by the guest is “which is the wining machine and she would answer, “every machine is a paying machine as long you have got the luck with you”
Akhona says the Wild Coast Sun is a fun place to be in because it’s a gaming casino resort it also has a hotel with beautiful aspects it is facing the ocean, and the other facing the garden, it has friendly staff it is a wholesome experience for guests.
Working at the Wild Coast Sun is a beautiful experience because of the Humility in the people and they are very inviting, I never felt like information was inaccessible. Miss Bongwa has built her work credentials through the Wild coast sun since 2016 from Intern to gaming slot supervisor.
