The Unfair Fate of a Top Achiever: Khanya's University Dreams Deferred

Khanya Matandabuzo, a 20-year-old from Lusikisiki, achieved outstanding matric results in 2024, with no marks below 60%. His hard work and dedication earned him a spot among the top learners at Siwali Senior Secondary School, which boasted an impressive 95.1% pass rate.

Khanya’s academic excellence and passion for education led him to apply to multiple universities, hoping to secure a degree in education. However, despite meeting the admission requirements, he received disappointing news: the programs were full, and there was no space for him.

“I really studied hard, attended camp, and gave it my all, but now I’m delayed,” Khanya said, expressing his disappointment. “I don’t know what I could’ve done better.”

Although this setback has delayed Khanya’s university plans, he remains optimistic and determined. “I was looking forward to studying this year, but this is my reality now,” he said. “I’ll use this gap year to keep myself busy and try again in 2026.”

Khanya plans to spend the year working and staying with his brothers in Cape Town. His resilience and determination in the face of disappointment are truly inspiring.

As Khanya navigates this unexpected twisakst, we wish him all the best for his future endeavors.
