The new electric truck from Shoprite that glows in the dark

Date:

The Shoprite Group is testing a heavy-duty electric truck as part of its fleet. It does not use fuel, does not produce any carbon dioxide, keeps food cool, and glows in the dark.

The biggest retailer in South Africa is working hard to cut down on its carbon footprint. The majority of Shoprite’s trucks and distribution centers have rooftop solar panels installed. A 100% electric Scania Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) has recently been unveiled.

In a statement released on Monday, the retail company stated that it would be refueled with renewable energy generated by Shoprite’s solar installations and used for local deliveries.

The Scania BEV rrefrigerated truck with a capacity of approximately 16 pallets, It has rooftop solar panels that power the cooling system and nine batteries. Andrew Havinga, chief supply chain officer for the Group, stated, “As Africa’s largest grocery retailer, the Shoprite Group places significant focus on reducing its environmental impact across its operations.” It’s also the first Shoprite truck to feature glow-in-the-dark signage, which will make it more visible when traveling at night. The glowing properties of the signage are caused by being in direct sunlight and have nothing to do with the truck’s solar panels or batteries. At night, the signage re-emits this absorbed light in the form of a brilliant green glow.
