This is the first shopping mall developed by the rural retail owner and assets manager Exemplar Retail in the Eastern Cape. Traditionally focusing on the ownership and management of its rural retail and township assets, the real estate investment broke ground of its first development late in 2021. The double-level Mall of KwaBhaca is the first of two developments undertaken by Exemplar in partnership with the AJ Property Holdings.
The mall has a variety of shops which includes Shoprite, Woolworths, Boxer, Clicks, Wimpy, Truworths, Totalsports, Mr Price group, the TFG Retail groups and Pekor. The mall has opened job opportunities for the people of Mount Frere because Shoprite alone has employed 78 people.
The mall is very convenient for shoppers because it uses extensive natural lighting and has created vast walkways for comfort and space between shoppers. According to the developer the roof KwaBhaca Mall is raised up to ensure that the environment is well ventilated. The shopping mall is close to the taxi rank which makes things easier for the shoppers.
It has been almost 40 years since Exemplar started to develop and manage shopping centers and it owns 60% of this development project.
The CEO of Exemplar Jason McCormick said, “As McCormick Property Development we are no strangers when it comes to development, building and managing centers in the township space.”
